The latest macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta includes new system components for recognizing touch gestures in several Apple apps. The code may point to preparations for a touchscreen MacBook, rumored to be called the MacBook Ultra.

Safari adds a touch sentinel recognizer, Photos includes PXGTouchDwellGestureRecognizer, Notes gets ICTouchPressGestureRecognizer, and Quick Look adds a dragTouch feature.

The code also supports Sidecar

The additions do not confirm that a new Mac is coming. They could also expand Sidecar, Apple’s feature for using an iPad as a display for a Mac.

Touch-oriented features first appeared in the launch version of macOS Golden Gate, which added pull-to-refresh gestures to Safari, Mail and Calendar.

Rumors point to an OLED MacBook

Rumors suggest that an OLED MacBook Ultra with a touchscreen could arrive as soon as late 2026. The device is also said to be thinner and lighter than current models and to use a Dynamic Island plus Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple has not announced the product.
