Leaks reveal new Apple TV 4K and HomePod features ahead of next week’s launch
New Apple software betas point to features that may arrive with upcoming Apple TV 4K and HomePod models next week. The code references Siri with Apple Intelligence, Dynamic Island controls for nearby accessories and expanded home-theater functions.
References to new Apple TV and HomePod features were found in the tvOS 27.2, HomePod 27.2 and iOS 27.2 betas. Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce the features next week, but the company has not officially confirmed the devices or launch details.
Apple Intelligence on Apple TV
Code in tvOS 27.2 beta 3 references Apple Intelligence on Apple TV. The AI features, including an updated Siri experience, are expected to be limited to new hardware.
Dynamic Island controls for accessories
Code in iOS 27.2 suggests that nearby smart-home accessories could display controls in the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. A new HomeKit method refers to showing those controls through a proximity manager.
HomePod surround-sound changes
Other discoveries concern HomePod’s surround-sound functions. The software includes a diagnostic indicating which speaker belongs to a particular surround system, provided HomeKit exposes the relevant interface.
When a HomePod is part of a Home Theater group with an eligible Apple TV, a new proxy-activation path could forward Siri requests to the television device. A separate older path would continue forwarding microphone audio to Apple TV.
Apple TV profile images
Apple TV profiles may gain characters from Apple’s film and television catalog as profile images, alongside emoji. Examples mentioned in the software findings include Ted Lasso, Mark S. from Severance and Carol from Pluribus.
Apple TV profiles are also expected to expand to iPhone and iPad in iOS and iPadOS 27.2. Until now, the feature has been limited to tvOS.
