Apple initially planned to equip the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and foldable iPhone Duo with 16GB of RAM, according to a brief Weibo post from the leaker known as Instant Digital.

The post does not specify when Apple considered that configuration. Xcode 27 confirms that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have 12GB of RAM, matching the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Duo is expected to have 12GB

The foldable iPhone Duo is also expected to use 12GB, but the Xcode data used to verify the Pro models does not yet include the foldable device.

Supply-chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted 12GB for the iPhone 18 lineup in April 2025. Analyst Jeff Pu made the same projection for the Pro models and Apple’s first foldable iPhone in January. In March, The Bell reported that Samsung would supply 12GB memory modules for the iPhone Duo.

Memory shortage may explain the change

The apparent shift may be linked to the global memory shortage. The Bell reported sharply higher prices for 12GB modules, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said rising memory costs had led Apple to discuss a higher starting price for the foldable phone.

Kuo also said DRAM shortages were forcing Apple to scale back its 2026 hardware shipment plans.

Duo pre-orders are scheduled to begin October 16, ahead of availability on October 23.
