Apple now recommends iOS 27.0.1 to users still running iOS 26
Apple has changed the recommended update for iPhones running iOS 26 to iOS 27.0.1. Previously, Settings promoted iOS 26.7 while iOS 27 appeared under “Also Available.”
Apple has made iOS 27.0.1 the primary recommended update for users who are still running iOS 26.
In Settings → General → Software Update, the release is now displayed prominently. Previously, iOS 26.7 was the featured recommendation.
iOS 27 was initially minimized
Apple released iOS 27 on September 14, but initially placed it under the less prominent “Also Available” section. The company has increasingly rolled out major iOS upgrades gradually to address bugs that emerge after public releases.
Following the release of iOS 27.0.1, that version is now the default next update for iPhones on iOS 26. Users can still choose to remain on the older operating system.
Last year, Apple waited until iOS 26.1 was available before recommending a move from iOS 18. This year’s earlier change points to the company’s focus on bug fixes and stability for iOS 27.
