Google launches Gemini Live in Gmail, Docs and Keep — voice control for paid tiers

Google has officially launched three Gemini-based voice features in Workspace — Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live, said Julie Kwon Kim, vice president of product for Google Workspace. The company first showed the technology at Google I/O this spring and has now released it under the collective name Live.

The features are rolling out in stages this week. Gmail Live and Keep Live will be available to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra; Docs Live will be limited to Pro and Ultra users. Google says Workspace enterprise customers will get the capabilities "soon," but has not provided specific dates. Free Google accounts are not currently included.

Gmail Live lets a user speak a query, after which the system scans the inbox and drafts a response; Google gives examples such as "what gate is my flight at" or "what is happening at my child's school this week." The feature shifts searching and filtering email from manual work to a dialog with an assistant.

Docs Live turns spoken input into a draft document: even chaotic "stream of consciousness" is organized into coherent text, the system chooses tone and, with user permission, pulls facts from Gmail, Google Drive, Chat and the open web. The aim is to produce a first draft faster than a user could type it.

Keep Live converts spoken thoughts in the background into structured lists and concrete tasks without any keystrokes.

All three features are powered by Gemini audio models, which Google says do more than simple speech-to-text: they interpret user intent and extract needed information. The launch page references Gemini 3.5 Live. Market researchers note the central challenge now is not voice recognition but how accurately the system finds information and preserves the original meaning of what was said.

Digital Trends observers point out that previous Google voice input was largely dictation that required manual correction, while Live elevates the process to a conversational assistant that handles routine information organization.
