GM Rolls Out Apple Wallet Car Keys to Select Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC Models

General Motors has begun rolling out Apple Wallet car-key support for select Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. The company plans to add more compatible models over time.

Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet will also be supported. A related Samsung press release said the service will be available in the U.S. and Canada.

Digital key capabilities

A compatible iPhone or Apple Watch can automatically unlock the vehicle as the user approaches and lock it after the user walks away. Apple Wallet can also open the trunk and turn the climate-control system on or off.

GM’s digital keys use ultra-wideband technology together with Bluetooth for proximity-based authentication. The feature works with iPhone 11 or later, excluding the second- and third-generation iPhone SE and iPhone 16e, as well as Apple Watch Series 6 or later.

Setup through GM’s mobile app

Users must download and sign in to their vehicle’s mobile app. While inside an OnStar-connected GM vehicle with the physical key fob nearby, they can follow the app’s prompts to add a digital key to a compatible wallet.

GM said customers will receive a notification in the vehicle app’s “What’s New” section when the feature becomes available. The company disclosed the rollout in a late-September press release; the source does not provide model-specific launch dates.
