Blizzard announces Diablo V for spring 2029 release

Blizzard Entertainment has announced Diablo V. The game is scheduled to launch in spring 2029, but platforms have not been announced.

The development team revealed the first details about the story, world and gameplay systems during a BlizzCon 2026 panel. “Diablo V: Forging the Next Era” was scheduled for 1:45 p.m. PT / 4:45 p.m. ET; the source does not provide enough information for a reliable Kyiv-time conversion.

Diablo rules over Sanctuary

Diablo has conquered Sanctuary and rules from the throne of Westmarch, using its people and souls in the Eternal Conflict. Players will take the role of Westmarch’s Heir, fleeing through the remains of a kingdom transformed into an outpost of Hell.

The Heir’s mysterious connection to Diablo makes the character both a threat to him and uniquely vulnerable to his influence.

The Western Continent destroyed

The Western Continent will be at the center of Diablo’s reign. The world is unstable: its terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards can change each time players return.

With towns and strongholds lost, survival will depend on a caravan of allies traveling through the scorched wastes. The companions include a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a stranded Treasure Goblin, and they will also serve as vendors.

Classes and classic itemization

The panel introduced the Demon Hunter, Monk and new Plague Knight, the first of many classes planned for launch.

The item system will draw inspiration from Diablo II. Gear will have stat requirements, larger items will take up more inventory space, and runes, runewords and gear sets will return.

The game is still early in development. Blizzard plans to begin regular updates in 2027, covering progress, design philosophy and new features.
