Ukraine’s government estimates that Russian attacks caused $7.7 billion in business losses in 2026. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi gave the figure in an interview with the BBC and said it continues to grow.
The losses stem from the destruction of premises and production facilities, as well as goods in warehouses. Koretskyi said that more than one million square metres of property had been destroyed or significantly damaged during the year, including warehouse and logistics facilities.
Proposed fund for war-risk insurance
At an online meeting with large businesses a few days ago, the government proposed a 1% increase in value-added tax to create a special fund for compensation related to war-insurance risks. The Cabinet of Ministers plans to establish a fund to insure businesses against war-related risks.
Koretskyi also said the government shares intelligence and briefings with businesses about where Russian forces are striking and what the consequences might be.
Consultations on employee reservations
Koretskyi said there had been no large-scale consultations with businesses on new rules for reserving employees from mobilisation, only smaller-scale discussions. He attributed this to his own background in business and understanding of the challenges entrepreneurs face.
