Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil the HomePad smart-home hub alongside a new operating system that may be called homeOS on October 13.

The system is expected to combine design elements from Apple’s other operating systems. Its main interface would feature photo slideshows and clock displays, with users swiping up to open the app launcher.

Siri expected to lead interactions

Mark Gurman says Siri will be central to homeOS and its approach to personal search, including requests for songs, podcasts, notes, calendar items and photos. Touch input will also be available for controlling apps.

Built-in apps may include Music, Podcasts, Photos, Weather, FaceTime, Notes, Calendar, Messages and Reminders. An App Store is not expected, though third-party widgets could be brought over from an iPhone.

The launch date and the homeOS name remain reported or rumored rather than officially confirmed by Apple. Bloomberg and Mark Gurman also link the system to the new HomePad device, but Apple has not confirmed those details in the supplied material.
