Apple will hold its “Welcome home” product event on October 13. The event will include an in-person press experience in New York City and an online video presentation.
The presentation is expected at about 9:00 a.m. ET on October 13 (13:00 UTC), equivalent to 6:00 a.m. PT. Apple has not confirmed the exact time, so the announcements or video could appear later.
HomeView could anchor Apple’s smart-home push
The main announcement is expected to be HomeView, Apple’s long-rumored smart display. Bloomberg reports that it will have a 6-inch square screen on a half-dome base supported by a metal arm.
The device is reportedly planned in two versions: one for wall mounting and another for a countertop. It could serve as a home hub powered by Siri and Apple Intelligence, recognizing who is speaking or approaching and changing the display accordingly. Recent reporting places its release sometime in November.
Its software is expected to combine elements of the Apple Watch, Apple TV, iPad and iPhone, including app designs, icons, widgets and StandBy mode.
Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini updates
Apple is also expected to introduce a new Apple TV 4K, the first update to the set-top box since November 2022. The design may remain unchanged, while an A19 or A19 Pro chip could bring Siri and Apple Intelligence features to the platform for the first time.
The device may include built-in microphones, and the Siri Remote could gain a speaker to make it easier to locate. Code references also point to a possible feature that would pair four full-sized HomePods with Apple TV for surround sound.
The HomePod mini is reportedly due for its first major hardware update. A new S10 chip could replace the current S5 processor and add support for Siri AI, alongside new color options.
LG accessories are not imminent
Apple is reportedly working with LG on HomeKit accessories including a smart lock, thermostat, doorbell and multiple cameras. Bloomberg says the products will not be released for at least a few more months, although Apple could preview them as part of its broader home strategy.
