A forecast as of publication. An announcement and on-sale availability require separate confirmation.
Utah, Kentucky and North Carolina appear to be the strongest candidates for the next driver’s license launches in Apple Wallet.
The feature is currently supported in 16 US states and Puerto Rico. Virginia and Oklahoma joined the program within the past month.
Utah follows Virginia’s rollout
Evidence found this summer in Apple’s backend indicated support for driver’s licenses in Utah and Virginia. Since Virginia has now launched the feature, Utah is expected to be among the next states to follow.
Kentucky completes digital ID upgrade
Kentucky previously said it would support Apple Wallet licenses after upgrading its digital ID system. Signs indicate that the upgrade has been completed, meaning the launch could proceed under the state’s original plans.
North Carolina sets a 2027 target
North Carolina recently announced a new digital driver’s license system. The state confirmed that Apple Wallet support is planned by early 2027.
Other states could launch before Utah, Kentucky or North Carolina, as more states have recently committed to offering Wallet-based licenses. For now, however, these three remain the most likely near-term additions.
