Apple unveils Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro, arriving September 22

Apple unveiled a new generation of Mac mini powered by the M6 and M5 Pro chips. The company positions the compact desktop for everyday work, professional workflows and local AI models.

Pre-orders opened August 25, with the first units scheduled to reach customers, Apple Stores and authorized resellers on September 22 across 30 countries and regions.

M6 and M5 Pro performance

Mac mini with M6 has 12-core CPU and GPU designs, Neural Accelerators in every GPU core and up to 32GB of unified memory. Apple claims up to four times faster AI performance, twice the graphics performance and 40 percent faster CPU performance than the Mac mini with M4.

The M5 Pro version offers up to an 18-core CPU, a 20-core GPU, up to 64GB of memory and 307GB/s of memory bandwidth. It supports Thunderbolt 5, including clustering multiple Mac mini systems to run large AI models on-device.

Ports and wireless connectivity

Both models support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet, with a 10Gb option available. The front includes two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, while the rear houses HDMI and Ethernet.

The M6 model has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the M5 Pro model has three Thunderbolt 5 ports. USB-C genlock support was also added for synchronizing a display and camera.

Pricing and software

The Mac mini with M6 starts at $899 in the U.S., with education pricing from $799. The M5 Pro model starts at $1,699, or $1,599 for education customers.

The computer will run with the upcoming macOS 27 Golden Gate, which includes Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features. A public beta of macOS 27 is available for testing, while the free update is due this fall; Apple says features may change and may not be available in every region or language.
