The 70-minute documentary “All of Us” is available on Apple TV and follows Ruby Bridges Elementary School, a public school where students with different educational needs learn together in general classrooms.

All students solve math problems, read books and take part in music lessons. Teachers and specialists work in the classroom, while the school’s principal and kindergarten teacher were named Principal and Teacher of the Year in 2025.

AAC tools extend classroom communication

Some students have severe communication difficulties. Augmentative and Alternative Communication software on iPads and iPhones helps them interact with teachers and classmates.

The apps also proved useful beyond students with communication challenges. Founding Principal Cathi Davis said AAC lets learners generate, expand and express ideas while addressing barriers involving motor skills, writing stamina and anxiety about speaking aloud.

A public school without extra resources

Ruby Bridges is a public school and, as the documentary states, receives no additional funding or staff for this approach. Its model is based on keeping children together rather than educating those needing extra support separately.

The documentary’s website provides video resources for other schools interested in Ruby Bridges’ example.
