Apple has announced a new-product launch scheduled for October 13. The company has not said whether it will hold a full presentation or introduce the devices through a press release.
The main expected release is a smart-home hub that combines features associated with an iPad and HomePod. Rumors point to a roughly 6-inch square display, Siri AI integration, a camera and a presence sensor.
Apple hub expected in two versions
The device is expected to control smart-home products, make FaceTime calls, play videos, provide news and weather information, and show calendar events. Apple is reportedly preparing a wall-mounted version and another with a half-dome speaker base; its possible price is around $350.
The camera and sensor could detect who is in the room and display a customized interface with widgets and apps. Apple is also said to envision placing hubs in multiple rooms.
HomePod mini and Apple TV updates
The HomePod mini is expected to receive new colors, an N1 chip for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a faster S-series processor supporting Siri AI. The Apple TV 4K could get an A19 or A19 Pro chip, more RAM, the N1 chip and an upgraded Siri Remote.
An OLED iPad mini is also in development and could appear at the event. It is expected to have improved water resistance and a faster chip, but the source does not confirm that it will be announced on October 13.
An Apple Experience gathering for media members is scheduled in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood on October 13 at 9:00 a.m. local time (13:00 UTC). Attendees are expected to receive hands-on access to products Apple introduces. Rumored Macs are not directly tied to this launch and could be announced later in the year.
