Apple’s latest acquisitions support its growing Creator Studio push
Apple acquired audio editor Samplab, following deals for MotionVFX and Color.io that also fit its Creator Studio strategy. The company is expected to showcase the suite during its “Pro and tell” announcements on October 28.
Apple is using recent acquisitions to expand Apple Creator Studio, its suite of professional apps for creative users. The latest deal was for Samplab, an audio editor for musicians whose features could complement Logic Pro.
Creator Studio launched in January. The package includes Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro and other professional applications.
Acquisitions for creative apps
In the spring, Apple acquired MotionVFX, a developer of visual-effects templates, plugins and motion-graphics tools for Final Cut Pro. It also acquired Color.io, whose tools focus on color management and grading for digital images.
Samplab describes itself as an audio editor for musicians, making Logic Pro the clearest potential fit. Apple’s recent acqui-hire of Huxe could also benefit Creator Studio, although the source gives no specific features or products connected to that deal.
October 28 presentation
Apple has continued adding features to Creator Studio. On October 28, the company is expected to give the suite attention during its “Pro and tell” announcements.
Apple is also expected next week to unveil four hardware products aimed at creative users: a redesigned MacBook Pro with a touch display, a modernized iPad mini, and M6 versions of the iMac and MacBook Pro.
The author argues that Apple is developing Creator Studio not only for services revenue but also as part of an integrated hardware, software and services ecosystem. That is the author’s assessment, not an officially stated reason for the acquisitions.
