Apple closes above $5 trillion valuation for the first time
Apple ended the trading day with a $5.01 trillion market capitalization, marking its first close above that threshold. Its shares rose 0.5% to $342.96, while most major technology companies finished lower.
Apple became the second company ever to close a trading day with a market valuation above $5 trillion. NVIDIA was the first, reaching the milestone in October 2025.
Apple shares rose 0.5% on the Nasdaq to close at $342.96. That gain was enough to lift the company’s market capitalization to $5.01 trillion.
Apple crossed the threshold seven times
The stock reached $347.07 during the session, about 0.31% below its record high of $348.15. The Wall Street Journal reported that this was Apple’s seventh intraday crossing of $5 trillion, but its first to remain above the mark through the closing bell.
Major technology stocks fell
Apple’s milestone came as many large technology companies ended the session lower. Oracle fell 8.83%, Meta dropped 3.27%, NVIDIA declined 3.16%, Microsoft lost 1.8%, Amazon fell 1.74%, and Google slipped 1.68%.
Milestone follows product announcements
Apple reached the new valuation after a series of product announcements, including the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the iPhone Duo, and the Apple HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K products announced the previous day.
The company is scheduled to report fiscal fourth-quarter results on November 2. The report is expected to provide more detail on rising component costs and the effect of recent hardware price increases.
Apple shares have risen roughly 5% since John Ternus became chief executive on September 1. Measured from the August 31 close of $316.85, the increase is 8.2%.
