Apple confirms Siri AI will not come to the original HomePod mini
Apple confirmed that Siri AI will be available only on the HomePod mini 2, not the original model. The clarification followed a correction to a CNET report that initially said the older device would receive support.
Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that Siri AI will not be available on the original HomePod mini. The feature will be exclusive to the HomePod mini 2.
The company also said Siri AI will work on second-generation and later Apple TV 4K models. CNET corrected its report after initially saying the older HomePod mini would receive support.
Correction to the initial report
CNET’s first version said the S5-powered HomePod mini would gain Siri AI later this year alongside iOS 27.2. The publication later added a correction stating that older HomePod models would not receive the feature.
The original claim was not supported by Apple’s available materials. Apple specifically identified compatible older Apple TV 4K models but did not make the same assurance for HomePod mini owners.
Limits of the original HomePod mini
The first HomePod mini debuted six years ago. The report notes that its S5 chip is dated for AI tasks, while Siri AI support on Apple Watch requires significantly newer chips.
