Apple acquired assets from audio-editing app developer Samplab and hired some of its employees. The European Commission disclosed the deal, which took place in June, in a notice shared today.
Samplab made a desktop app and plugins for music production. Its tools included converting audio to MIDI, detecting and editing chords, and separating different parts of a song.
Samplab’s audio-editing tools
The products also let users edit notes in polyphonic audio without changing the original sound’s timbre.
Apple could integrate the tools into Logic Pro or GarageBand. Logic Pro already includes Stem Splitter and Chord ID; editing notes in polyphonic audio would be a new capability for the app.
The European Commission filing
The filing says Apple acquired “certain assets” from Samplab and hired “certain Samplab employees.” Apple is designated a “gatekeeper” in the EU, and the Digital Markets Act requires it to notify the European Commission about deals involving core platform services, digital services, and data collection.
Samplab shut down on September 17, 2026. Its website now redirects visitors to Apple.com.
