Amazon refreshes Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft with flat screens and new colors
Amazon unveiled updated Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft readers with flat display surfaces. The base model is 6.8 mm thick, weighs 140 grams and opens books 30% faster.

Amazon updated its entire Kindle lineup, including the base Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft. All three models now have flat display surfaces instead of recessed screens and come in new colors, including purple and red.
The base Kindle gets smaller
The new base model is 6.8 mm thick and weighs 140 grams. It lasts up to six weeks on a charge, while books open 30% faster than on the previous version.
The 16GB Kindle starts at $150 and comes in Ube and Graphite. The aluminum version weighs 20 grams more but doubles storage to 32GB.
Paperwhite and Colorsoft adopt flat displays
Amazon says the flat surface makes Colorsoft’s color images clearer and improves Paperwhite’s contrast in sunlight. Paperwhite lasts up to 12 weeks per charge and starts at $200.
The Paperwhite Signature Edition has an aluminum body, double-tap page turning and automatic brightness adjustment. It costs about $50 more than the standard model.
Colorsoft starts at $290, while Colorsoft Signature starts at $320. The base Kindle and aluminum version are already on sale in the US, Canada, the UK, Japan and other markets; Paperwhite and Colorsoft are currently available there only for preorder.
