AirPods gain custom EQ in new firmware update
Apple released new AirPods firmware with a long-requested three-band equalizer. On compatible H2 models, users can adjust low, mid and high frequencies separately.
Apple released new AirPods firmware that adds custom equalizer controls. The feature is available across compatible models using the H2 chip.
Users can adjust low, mid and high frequencies separately in the Settings app. While changing the settings, a song from Apple Music can play inside the app so users can hear the result in real time.
Supported models and firmware builds
The feature is available on AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4 and AirPods Max 2. The firmware build is 9A350 for AirPods 5 and 9A348 for the other listed models.
AirPods firmware updates install automatically while the earbuds are charging and within Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad or Mac connected to Wi-Fi. The firmware version can be checked in the iPhone Settings app.
Other changes in iOS 27
Apple redesigned the AirPods interface in Settings and separated controls into menus including Hearing Health, Find My and Live Translation. A slider also provides finer control over Adaptive Audio.
iOS 27 adds the full GymKit experience to iPhone and AirPods Pro 3 without requiring an Apple Watch. AirPods Pro 3 users can use Precision Finding in Find My on Apple Watch, while AirPods paired with a compatible iPhone can interact with Siri AI.
