AMD has launched the Ryzen AI Halo Developer Platform, a mini PC for AI developers built on the Gorgon Halo platform. It uses the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor and Radeon 8065S graphics.
In the US, the configuration with 192GB of memory and a 2TB SSD costs $7,299. The previous Strix Halo-based platform is currently sold for $3,999.
Unified memory for large models
Memory capacity has increased from 128GB to 192GB, a 50% rise. Up to 160GB can be assigned as graphics memory, which is 66% more than on the earlier platform.
This is a shared system-memory pool that can be allocated between processor and graphics workloads, not separate video-memory chips on a graphics card. AMD positions the capacity for workloads involving large language models.
Graphics and connectivity
The Radeon 8065S uses the RDNA 3.5 architecture and has 40 compute units, the same number as the Radeon 8060S in the previous system. The graphics update is therefore limited, although testing shows that the move to Gorgon Halo brings a moderate increase in processor performance.
The system retains the previous model’s exterior design. Connectivity includes four USB Type-C ports, Ethernet of up to 10Gbps, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
