Riot will take League of Legends Classic offline in January 2027, six months after its launch. The current season will be the mode’s last.

The company said most players have returned to other parts of League of Legends. Purchases of Classic content made obsolete by the shutdown will be refunded.

More champions will arrive before closure

Riot plans to release at least seven more champions before the mode ends. Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim and Lucian are scheduled for update 26.21, while Vilibear, Urgot and Udyr are planned for later updates.

League of Legends Classic restored an older version of Summoner’s Rift and removed most champions and kits introduced after 2013. Riot also released “new” old champions at a faster pace than they appeared in the game’s earlier era.

After the shutdown, Riot intends to bring Classic back, likely as an event mode with adjustments and additions. The company said it will later discuss what worked, what could have been more faithful to the past, and where that focus may have limited the experience.
